Dell EMC PowerProtect DD Series Appliances with DDOS 7.5

With spring just around the corner, we are pleased to announce the next release of DDOS, version 7.5. DDOS is the operating system that powers both the DD and DP series of PowerProtect appliances from Dell Technologies. DDOS provides the agility, security, and reliability to deliver our high-speed, scalable and industry-leading multi-cloud protection storage for backup, archive and disaster recovery.

When paired with Dell EMC Data Protection Suite, DD series is the ultimate protection storage appliance. DD series and Dell EMC Data Protection Suite go together like peanut butter and jelly. The two together offer a complete data protection offering. Data Protection Suite software delivers simple, comprehensive, and flexible data protection. When DD series is coupled with the Data Protection Suite customers are benefitting from industry leading deduplication and encryption – which optimizes storage and compute capabilities. This all-encompassing protection solution not only reduces the risks of data loss, it also provides efficiency and agility to meet VMware, cloud, or cyber recovery demand.

What’s new with DDOS 7.5?

DDOS 7.5 includes several enhancements, security updates, and the expansion of our regional coverage for PowerProtect DD Virtual Edition (DDVE) running in Azure.

When it comes to managing your DD series environment on-prem and in-cloud PowerProtect DD Management Center (DDMC) is the single pane of glass you are looking for. Recent updates added the ability to automate and schedule DDOS upgrades across your entire environment via DDMC. In DDOS 7.5, you’ll be able to view projected capacity usage for your PowerProtect DD and older Data Domain systems. The ability to view projected capacity at the system level is a powerful tool that allows for forecasting the needed storage to protect your future data. This capability can help with budgeting and avoiding unplanned expenses.

DDMC is a powerful management tool that is a complimentary download when you purchase a DD series appliance. Not familiar with DDMC? Check out the overview video below to learn more about the value and ease of management that DDMC has to offer.

Last year, we announced the introduction of DDVE supporting in-cloud instances of up to 256TB for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. With DDOS 7.5, DDVE now has greater regional coverage in the China region when running in Azure.

As with all DDOS releases, we continue our commitment to data security. This latest release includes the US Fed Certification: FIPS 186-4 crypto-libraries and provides the ability to use two factor authentication (2FA) with RSA SecureID for certain critical operations.

Last but not least, for customers backing up to a VTL from IBMi, we have added VTL support for LTO-7 TS3500-L53 systems.
