As-a-Service as It Should Be: Introducing Project APEX

2020 accelerated longstanding trends and adoption of the technologies that will shape the next decade.  What was once a vision for 2030, will now become a reality in 2025.  We’ll see wide-scale connectivity with 5G, data-driven insights, automation and embedded intelligence.  As a result, the edge is becoming a center of gravity for digital transformation – paving the way for smart factories, cities, hospitals and schools.

This digital future requires agile IT, supported by hybrid cloud operating models that enable data visibility and management everywhere data exists. And as organizations accelerate their digital transformation agenda, they’re realizing just how complicated their IT strategy is. Multiple clouds, SLAs, operating models – legacy systems competing to keep up with new apps and services – all of it draining financial capital.

Like I said, complicated. So, we’re going to make it simple with Project APEX.

Project APEX

Project APEX  is our strategy for delivering a radically simplified  as-a-Service and cloud experience to our customers and partners. This spans PCs and IT infrastructure and it’s all from one trusted partner—unmatched in the industry.

Project APEX builds upon our long history of offering on-demand technology to give customers the freedom to scale resources so they can quickly react to changes in the business environment.

Project APEX builds upon our long history of offering on-demand technology to give customers the freedom to scale resources so they can quickly react to changes in the business environment. They can focus less on IT and more on their business needs.

Project APEX is as-a-Service as it should be:

  • A simple cloud experience – turnkey, fully-managed through the Dell Technologies Cloud Console.
  • A consistent experience across private, public and edge cloud operating models – with consistent management and operations.
  • More choice – you choose how you pay and consume: pay as you go, pay as you use or subscription; and you choose what you consume with elastic capacity and performance that can be scaled up or down.

as-a-Service unravels the complexity of digital transformation. In fact, IDC is predicting that by 2024, over 75% of infrastructure at the edge locations will be consumed as-a-Service, as will more than half of data center infrastructure.¹ That timing lines up nicely with the digital future I mentioned earlier.

First available in the first half of next year is Storage-as-a-Service, with infrastructure resources from our industry-leading Power portfolio. Overtime, we’ll expand it across servers, networking, hyperconverged infrastructure, PCs and broader solutions.

Project APEX is the future of how we’ll deliver our technology and services. It brings together our as-a-Service and cloud strategy, offerings and go-to-market under a single effort. Work is underway across every team in our organization. This is big – it’s bold – and it’s our way of proving we’ll stop at nothing to ensure our customers can run full speed ahead into the next Data Decade.
